RWTH Backbone
The RWTH Backbone, that is, the core network, is continually being extended to keep up with the state of the art. This includes setting up new components as well as modernizing the hardware and cable infrastructures. The service consists of the following basic service modules:
- The Domain Name Server (DNS)
- The centralized redundant Network Time Service (NTP)
- The extension of the cable network between the RWTH buildings
- The application of patches as well as analysis and removal of physical errors in the cable core network
- The centralized packet filtering (Firewall)
- The Intrusion Prevention System (IPS/Blast-O-Mat)
