Following a successful initial funding phase, the WestAI Service Center will continue to operate until the end of 2027 and further expand its range of services in a second funding phase. The project will thus continue its work and continue to offer companies and research institutions in Germany low-threshold access to modern AI technologies, consulting, and infrastructure.
WestAI is one of four AI service centers in Germany established by the Federal Ministry of Education and Research to strengthen AI research and transfer the results into practice. Since 2022, the center has successfully offered support in the form of training, consulting, access to powerful computing resources, and collaborations in its first phase.
Under the leadership of the University of Bonn and with the support of leading research institutions from North Rhine-Westphalia – including the IT Center at RWTH Aachen University and Forschungszentrum Jülich – as well as other universities, WestAI pools scientific expertise and infrastructure to make AI solutions usable in practice for small and medium-sized enterprises and researchers.
For the 2026/2027 funding period, WestAI will focus on further expanding its range of services, particularly in the areas of public relations, knowledge transfer, and generative AI, supplemented by formats such as webinars, success stories, and the development of a WestAI chatbot.
Further information on the WestAI service center can be found on the WestAI website and on the IT Center Blog.
