As part of the 2022 backup transition, a new platform for data backup and recovery has been set up at RWTH Aachen University in recent months. Together with the manufacturers Hitachi Vantara and Commvault, the IT Center's backup team has set up a new backup infrastructure that will in future provide not only RWTH but also other universities in NRW with the Datensicherung.nrw service.

In this context, we are gradually saying goodbye to the previous backup solution, the "TSM backup".

From 17.01.2023*, the TSM backup will only be available in "Read Only" mode.

Therefore it is no longer possible to back up systems via TSM. System backups will then only be possible via the Commvault infrastructure. Read access to backups saved in TSM will only be possible for a transitional period.

We therefore ask all backup users to switch to the Commvault solution now at the latest in order to ensure seamless backup statuses.

All necessary instructions and steps are available on IT Center Help. From the first steps with Commvault to the installation of clients and their registration to the execution of the server plan, our instructions support the transition to the new backup solution.

We have identified a number of facilities that have not yet migrated to the new backup platform (Commvault backup). These facilities have already been contacted in this regard. In addition, there are both operational and personnel reasons for postponing the "Read Only" mode to January 17, 2023.
