Announcement of changes to WLAN usage at RWTH Aachen University.

Currently there are two important changes to come concerning the use of the university WiFi eduroam.

1. Expiration of the access data ab123456@rwth-aachen.de + WLAN/VPN-password

From June 04, 2019, the eduroam login will only be possible with access data generated from the eduroam Device Manager. Login with access data in the following form is no longer from June 04, 2019: ab123456@rwth-aachen.de + Password for “WLAN/VPN”-account.

Generate secure access data early using the eduroam Device Manager to stay online. Instructions can be found in our documentation portal.

The “WLAN/VPN” account will be renamed accordingly in order to make the account function more transparent and intuitive. From June 04, 2019, the account is then called “VPN”.

The login to the institute WiFis remains unaffected by this change. Useres who use these access data for various institute WiFis will continue to use the familia access data.

2. The root certificate of the WLAN server loses its validity.

The root certificate of the WiFi server loses its validity on July 07, 2019. For this reason, the security certificates on eduroam-using devices must also be exchanged. However, the new security certificate is already available for reconfiguration.

In order to continue using eduroam, users must integrate the new security certificate by July 07, 2019. This requires reconfiguration on devices that are connected to eduroam.

All information can be found in our documentation portal.
