Course Description
The online workshop “Understanding and Using AI” provides an accessible introduction to the fundamentals of artificial intelligence and generative AI. Among other things, participants will learn how generative models and transformers work, how modern AI systems process information, and what is important when creating effective prompts.
Using practical examples, participants will learn how to apply AI tools effectively in their studies, research, and careers. At the same time, the workshop will address the limitations and risks of AI, including hallucinations, bias, academic integrity, copyright, and data protection. RWTHgpt and the societal impacts of AI use will also be introduced.
The workshop is aimed at students who wish to develop a basic understanding of generative AI and learn to use AI tools thoughtfully and responsibly.

Learning Outcomes
Upon completion of the course, students will be able to:
- Explain the basic functioning of generative AI.
