IT Center Steering Group
According to § 11 of the “Ordnung zur Errichtung von wissenschaftlichen Einrichtungen und Betriebseinheiten der Rheinisch-Westfälischen Technischen Hochschule Aachen vom 21.09.2007 in der Fassung der zweiten Ordnung zur Änderung der Ordnung zur Errichtung von wissenschaftlichen Einrichtungen und Betriebseinheiten vom 06.10.2014”, the IT Center of RWTH Aachen is a central operating institution.
The IT Center’s primary responsibilities are
- the planning, operation and provision of central data, computing, visualization and communications systems and the services that build on them, as well as support in their use,
- the planning and operation of the university’s core data network, as well as
- the development of concepts for cross-institutional solutions in questions concerning information technology.
The IT Center is led by a full-time director (Univ.-Prof. Dr. Matthias S. Müller), as appointed by the Rector’s Office. To aid in the execution of its duties, the IT Center cooperates regionally and nationally with comparable institutions.
The management of the IT Center receives assistance from a steering group appointed by the Rector’s Office where fundamental issues are concerned. This group consists of important clients of the IT center as well as IT specialists. The steering group provides direct contact between the IT Center and the groups at RWTH Aachen for which the IT Center provides services. It sees representatives of these groups and of the IT Center discussing the available services and duties as well as their strategic direction.
The group should consist of a maximum of eight members. The representatives of the different groups can recommend suitable candidates (see § 11 Abs. 1 HG).
The commission is made up of eight members, 13 representatives and guests. The IT Center’s director also belongs to the commission, but does not have voting power.
