We are pleased to announce that the migration of the RWTH Aachen sciebo instance from ownCloud to Nextcloud was successfully completed on August 14, 2025.

What Does This Mean for You?

If you use sciebo exclusively via the web client, you will only notice minor visual changes and a few additional features. Existing access and permissions will remain completely unchanged.

If you have been using the sciebo/ownCloud client or an app, you will need to actively switch to the Nextcloud client. To do this, you must first uninstall the old ownCloud client, if you have been using it. You can then download and install the new Nextcloud client. Once setup is complete, your files and folders will be available locally as usual.

Detailed information and step-by-step instructions for installing and using the Nextcloud client are available at IT Center Help.

The Nextcloud Client Offers the Following Changes

The switch to Nextcloud provides you with several new features. Among other things, the following apps have been integrated:

  • Calendar for scheduling appointments
  • Contacts for managing contact data
  • Deck, a Kanban board for efficient project management
  • Forms for creating surveys
  • Polls for voting

In addition, certain file formats such as “.odt” or “.odp” and other LibreOffice formats are no longer opened in OnlyOffice, but in Collabora, which enables seamless editing within the familiar working environment.

For more information about the migration, please refer to our blog post and the sciebo website. Instructions for use and installation can be found at IT Center Help. If you have any questions, the IT Service Desk team will be happy to assist you. (*)
