Public Key Certificates at the RWTH

The IT Center operates a registration authority for the RWTH within the framework of GÉANT/TCS as a member of the DFN association.

Members of the university can obtain user certificates according to the X.509 standard (also known as S/MIME certificates). A GÉANT/TCS user certificate allows users to generate an advanced digital signature.

University institutions can obtain TLS server certificates.

The root certificate of the GÉANT/TCS certificate chain is anchored in all common browsers and e-mail applications.

The certificates of the discontinued DFN-PKI Global retain their validity until the respective certificate expires, but no later than August 29, 2026.
