Application as MATSE

Are you interested in mathematics, computer science and other natural sciences?
Would you like to study theory as well as gain a lot of practical experience?
Are you curious to learn how to develop software professionally as part of a team?

You can combine all of this in the dual training program for mathematical-technical software developers (MATSE) with the training-integrated degree program “Applied Mathematics and Computer Science (B.Sc.)” at FH Aachen.

The dual MATSE apprenticeship starts on the first working day in September. It is possible to apply all year round.

Prerequisites

As a student, you should have good grades, especially in mathematics and science. You do not need to have the Abitur or Fachabitur with a full practical phase at the time of application, but you must be aiming for it in the current school year.

As a change of degree program, you should still be interested in mathematics and computer science and should not have been exmatriculated in a related or comparable degree program.

Documents for the application

Your application for an apprenticeship as a MATSE should consist of the following documents:

  • a cover letter,
  • a current CV with your telephone number and e-mail address,
  • a copy of your Abitur certificate (general higher education entrance qualification) or Fachabitur certificate (entrance qualification for universities of applied sciences) with proof of the full practical phase. If you do not yet have the final document, your application should include your last two half-year reports.
  • If you have obtained your degree (general higher education entrance qualification/Abitur) abroad, proof of a language test is required. Please also refer to our page for applicants with foreign qualifications.
  • If you are currently studying or have completed your studies, your application must include a transcript of records or the final document from your previous studies.

Any document that is not written in German must be sent in a notarized version translated into German.

Submitting your application

You can submit your application to the central application office at RWTH in one of four ways:

Alternatively, you can apply to any of the training providers in Aachen.

After submitting your application, your documents will be checked for a university entrance qualification. If this is the case, you will be invited to take the knowledge test by the MATSE training group.

Once you have passed the knowledge test, the training companies with vacancies can view your application. They will invite you to an interview. Together with the training company, you decide whether a training contract should be concluded.

MATSE training companies are higher education institutions of RWTH Aachen University, such as the IT Center, as well as IT companies in the Aachen region or the University Hospital of RWTH Aachen University.

Enrollment at the FH Aachen

With the MATSE training contract as a prerequisite for admission, you enrol on the “Applied Mathematics and Computer Science B.Sc.” course at FH Aachen, as this replaces the vocational school of the MATSE training.

You will be enrolled at the FH Aachen, Jülich campus. The enrollment portal will be open from mid-May. Please note the information provided by FH Aachen.

All courses take place at the IT Center of RWTH Aachen University. The language of instruction and administration is German.
