Course Description

This course teaches important functions and formatting options in Microsoft Excel spreadsheet software. The aim is to enable users to use Excel to create structured tables and apply functions correctly.

Formatting spreadsheets:

  • Formatting cells
  • Conditional formatting
  • AutoFormat
  • AutoComplete
  • Adjusting column width and row height
  • Optimal column width and row height
  • Cut, copy, and paste (various paste options)
  • Fill function (copy cell contents, data series, list, fill with step size)
  • Protecting cells (protecting sheets)
  • Sorting (simple and entire tables)
  • AutoFilter

Functions in Excel:

  • AutoCorrect
  • Function: Sum (example of “simple” functions)
  • Column and row sum
  • Addressing cells
  • Cell references (relative and absolute)
  • References across multiple worksheets
  • Function wizard
  • IF function
  • Logical functions (Boolean algebra)
  • VLOOKUP / HLOOKUP
  • Combination fields
  • VLOOKUP with combination fields
  • Charts
  • Pivot tables

Exercises on the respective topics will be done during the course.
Some exercises are also to be completed at home.
