sciebo is the cloud service for NRW universities.
The service includes storage, synchronization and sharing of data beyond NRW university borders. In addition to storage quota for users, it is possible to obtain cloud storage for research projects up to two terabytes.
The participating universities operate sciebo independently. The data is processed at the universities of Münster, Bonn and Duisburg-Essen and is thus subject to the German Data Protection Act.
Migration of sciebo to Nextcloud
The RWTH instance of sciebo has been successfully migrated from ownCloud to the Nextcloud client provided by the University of Münster on August 14, 2025.
If you have only used sciebo via the web client, only a few visual elements and feature enhancements will change for you. Existing access and permissions will remain completely unchanged.
However, if you have used the sciebo/ownCloud client or an app, you will need to actively switch to the new Nextcloud client. To do this, uninstall the previous client(s) and then install the Nextcloud client. Installation instructions are available on the sciebo website at Client downloads.
For more information about the migration, please visit the sciebo website.
