During a video conference between 29 universities, the non-profit association "Moodle at universities" was founded on July 22, 2021. RWTH Aachen University is one of the founding members of the association, which is based in Berlin and will be active as a contact and multiplier for the open source system Moodle. The aim of the association is to strengthen networking and knowledge transfer as well as to coordinate the further development of Moodle for university use. By organizing network meetings and expert panels, the exchange among each other as well as the publication of best practices aims to contribute to digital sovereignty in the education sector.

RWTH Aachen University is represented within the association by Dr. Harald Schnurbusch, head of the Learning Platform Management (LPM) department of the Center for Teaching and Learning Services (CLS). Dr. Schnurbusch is also a member of the RWTHmoodle team at RWTH Aachen University, which consists of members of the CLS and the IT Center.
