Green IT
What Means Green IT?
With the increasing spread and significance of high-performance computing in science, research and teaching, supercomputers have not only become an indispensable key technology, but the demands on their operation have also increased.
This applies above all to the sustainable use of resources - especially in times of climate change. The corresponding goal of Green IT is to work as energy-efficiently as possible. With regard to IT and HPC systems, this primarily concerns the electrical power consumption of the computers and the subsequent release of heat. There are two ways to optimize the use of energy:
- an energy-efficient overall system, with the best possible ratio of flops per watt, i.e. computing power per power consumption, and
- an energy-efficient cooling system.
