The basis of most VR- and Visualization-applications provided at the IT Center is Epic's Unreal game engine. Together with modular/custom extensions for seamless integration into our hardware, we use this toolkit to develop applications for the entire range of VR input devices and display systems in general and the AixCAVE in particular. For exclusively headset-based applications, we also develop solutions with the game engine Unity or the browser-based framework WebXR. To create appealing and meaningful visualizations as well as visualization and analysis tools for a variety of application areas, we also develop custom 2D/3D applications with a special focus on performance, scalability, and individual solutions. In addition, we use proven software solutions such as ParaView, Blender, three.js, and D3.js.
