The project git.nrw aims to develop a service concept with training and further education offers as well as the operation of a central GitLab instance for universities in North Rhine-Westphalia. It is intended to support software development, research data management, (research) project management and teaching. In a digitized world, efficient collaboration is crucial; git.nrw not only promotes the exchange of code and ideas among developers, students and teachers, but also offers support for organizational processes and collaborative work on documents. This not only contributes to the digital sovereignty of the university landscape, but also strengthens collaboration with research institutions, industry partners, partners and guests.
GitLab, a DevOps platform that makes software development processes more efficient, provides the technological basis. git.nrw creates a dynamic network to strengthen software development in North Rhine-Westphalia and offers a centralized alternative to existing local instances that are often not sustainable.
In addition, a training concept is being developed that appeals to different target groups and includes both self-learning materials and workshops. A “train-the-trainer” approach is being pursued to make the materials available at universities. All interested parties are invited to actively participate in the development of the training programs.
