Following a successful pilot phase, KI:connect.nrw is now available to all universities in North Rhine-Westphalia. This provides universities with centralised and secure access to modern generative AI models such as those from OpenAI.

As part of the pilot phase, the platform was intensively tested together with selected universities. In addition to technical requirements, all data protection

and contractual framework conditions were carefully examined and implemented. The aim is to offer a user-friendly and reliable solution that can be used across all universities. Eleven universities are already actively connected to KI:connect or have already implemented it.

Access is via the specially developed KI:connect user interface, which enables barrier-free and customisable access to the AI models. Note: The platform can now be accessed via a new URL.

This means that universities can benefit directly from the possibilities of generative AI without major technical effort and at the same time easily integrate the latest developments.

The project is being managed and continuously developed in close collaboration by an overarching team from various departments of the IT Center and the Center for Learning and Skills (CLS). The project team is assisting the institutions with technical advice and administrative support at the start to ensure a smooth introduction. The state-wide availability was made possible by the support of the Ministry of Culture and Science NRW, which actively promotes digitalisation and innovative research at universities.

Further information and all relevant documents for use are available on the KI:connect website.
