Due to the outdated CentOS 7 Linux operating system of the CLAIX, the changeover to a new Linux distribution is taking place. The IT Center has chosen Rocky Linux 8.7, which is also compatible with Red Hat Enterprise. The changeover will be completed by April 30.
However, for you as users, these two changes require that you:
1) learn how to use the new module system (e.g., changed module names, toolchains, etc.) and
2) recompile your software and
3) revise your batch scripts and possibly change them accordingly.
During the transition period, the listed compute nodes will be successively migrated to the new environment:

login18-3.hpc.itc.rwth-aachen.de
login18-x-2.hpc.itc.rwth-aachen.de
login18-g-2.hpc.itc.rwth-aachen.de
copy18-2.hpc.itc.rwth-aachen.de
Therefore, waiting times for jobs in the old environment may increase over time.
Until the changeover is completed, we provide parallel support for both environments- the old one (CentOS 7) and the new one (Rocky Linux 8.7).
We have summarized an overview of the changes that the transition will bring on IT Center Help.
Detailed information about the new module system (including sample scripts for various software packages) can be found in a separate branch under "Software (Rocky 8)".
