Due to license changes at Microsoft, RWTH Aachen University will have less storage space available for students in the OneDrive and SharePoint Online services from 1 August 2024. However, Microsoft has offered RWTH Aachen University to temporarily retain the current storage space as a transitional solution.
If the technical implementation of this transitional solution is not completed by August 1, 2024, OneDrive and SharePoint Online may not be usable as usual for a short period of time. In this case, it will not be possible to upload new data or edit existing data online for a short period of time. However, it will always be possible to access and download data.
On September 17, 2024, the necessary technical limitations on the maximum available storage in OneDrive and SharePoint Online will be implemented. After this date, students will have a maximum storage capacity of 10 GB in their personal OneDrive and a maximum of 50 GB for SharePoint Online sites.
Please also note the already adapted terms of use.
Action required for users
For all OneDrive areas and SharePoint Online sites that are currently over the above-mentioned limit, this means that the excess storage space must be released.
Users will need to actively reduce data volumes to ensure that they comply with the capacity available from September 17.
Instructions for data backup are available in the corresponding FAQ section on IT Center Help.
Please prepare for the upcoming restrictions now and look for alternative platforms or storage options such as sciebo.
