On September 9, 2025, a new root certificate (DFN Community Root CA 2022) will be introduced in the eduroam and RWTH-institutes WLAN. From this date, only the new certificate will be accepted for secure authentication. Connections with the previous certificate will no longer be possible.
What exactly will change?
- From September 9, 2025, only the new DFN Community Root CA 2022 certificate will be supported.
- Devices that have not integrated it will lose their Wi-Fi connection to eduroam and RWTH-institutes from this date.
- This particularly affects devices that authenticate with EAP-PEAP or EAP-TTLS.
How can you prepare?
- Use the new eduroam Configuration Assistant Tool (CAT) to set up or update.
- Installations after June 12, 2025, will automatically integrate the new certificate.
- Windows 11 accepts the new certificate without prompting if it has been configured via the CAT app.
