The migration of research data to the new DataStorage.nrw storage system has been completed. Between July 2025 and January 2026, around 2.7 petabytes of research data were successfully transferred.

Since July 2025, DataStorage.nrw has been available to all researchers at universities participating in DH.NRW. Access is provided via the NFDI login, among other things, and enables cross-university collaboration. Research data is organized on a project basis, with project managers determining access rights.

With a total capacity of 24 petabytes, DataStorage.nrw offers around three times as much storage space as its predecessor system, Research Data Storage (RDS). The distributed infrastructure at four locations (Aachen, Duisburg-Essen, Cologne, and Paderborn) also ensures increased reliability.
