Sebastian Freitag, Dominik Rausch, and Torsten Kuhlen of the Virtual Reality Group, RWTH Aachen University got recognized with a "Best Technote Award" for their work "Reorientation in Virtual Environments Using Interactive Portals" which Sebastian presented at the IEEE Symposium on 3D User Interfaces 2014 (3DUI) hosted at Minneapolis, Minnesota.
In their work, the authors investigated the use of portals as a means for navigation in CAVE-like virtual environments with the goal of maximizing the amount of physical locomotion, i.e. real walking, given the spatial constraints of the overall system.
IEEE 3DUI is one of the premier forums worldwide for work on spatial user interfaces. It is a yearly event, currently co-located with the IEEE Virtual Reality Conference.
