The first phase of the migration was successfully completed between June 1st and June 4th, 2021.
This does not currently include websites that have a Shibboleth connection or a contact form. These will be migrated at a later date.
The second phase of the migration is currently being scheduled. As soon as the time window for this has been defined, a corresponding message on the IT Center website will be published.
Operational change in the "Webhosting" service
The many years of good cooperation with the FH Aachen and the strengthened cross-university cooperation idea of the state of NRW to bundle know-how, software and hardware, leads to the fact that we will change the technical part of the service "Webhosting" in mid-April 2021. This means that we will completely hand over the administration of the web servers and the associated MySQL databases into the hands of the data processing center (DVZ) of the FH Aachen. The changeover will take place from June 1st to 4th, 2021.
For this purpose, the contents of the existing websites and content management systems will be migrated to servers of the FH Aachen. In the Domain Name Service (DNS), however, all websites affected by the move will continue to be in the namespace of RWTH Aachen University. This change will of course be made in compliance with the requirements of the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and has been coordinated with the Data Protection Officer of RWTH Aachen University.
By keeping the URL "*.rwth-aachen.de", your Internet presence will function unchanged - your online visitors will not notice anything about the change. The support processes will not change for you either: the support will remain with us at the IT-ServiceDesk of RWTH Aachen University. In addition, the service manager responsible for this service will continue to take care of the development of the service and will be happy to advise you.
Please note that a two-day maintenance slot is required for migration. We will do our best to keep the downtime for the individual websites within the maintenance window as low as possible.
If you have any questions or problems, our colleagues at the IT Service Desk will be happy to help.
Check for Migration
If you are not sure whether your website has already been migrated, you can check it as follows:
- Open the command prompt or a terminal
- Run the "nslookup" command for your website
If "web-std" appears under Name, your website has not been migrated yet. If "k8s" appears there, you have already been migrated.
Once your website has been migrated, please use the new URLs for file upload and database. The access data will remain unchanged.
For more information, please refer to the message on the status message portal.
