In consideration of the steadily increasing national and international networking of various research institutions, the Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft recommends that the management of research data ideally be promoted cooperatively between research institutions. In this way, methods and procedures can be implemented in a targeted manner to ensure a long-term reusability of the research data. The RWTH Aachen University has also recognized the need to promote research data management in cooperation with other research institutions and to expand existing cooperations.

The RWTH Aachen University is already working with the Forschungszentrum Jülich (FZ Jülich) in six research sections as part of the Jülich Aachen Research Alliance. This cooperation was reinforced by the involvement of FZ Jülich in the steering group of the research data management project in Aachen.

The cooperation is now being intensified by examining the possibilities of joint IT infrastructural solutions for the challenges of research data management as well as through the recordings of a representative of RWTH Aachen University into the project management group of research data management at the FZ Jülich.

As part of the cooperation between RWTH Aachen University and FZ Jülich, the building of competences can be promoted, synergies exploited and knowledge interlinked to gain further insights into research data management for the future.
