With the "FAIR-Data Spaces" project, the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF) is now supporting the establishment of a joint cloud-based data space for science and industry by linking GAIA-X and the National Research Data Infrastructure (NFDI) with 6.3 million euros.
The project, coordinated by the Fraunhofer Institute for Applied Information Technology FIT in cooperation with the National Research Data Infrastructure (NFDI) e.V. association, creates the roadmap for cooperation between the two initiatives Gaia-X and NFDI, clarifies ethical and legal frameworks for data exchange between science and industry, develops common technical foundations and demonstrates the use of Gaia-X technologies for the provision and use of research data along FAIR principles in various scientific disciplines and industries.
Other project partners are the Fraunhofer Institute for Software and Systems Engineering ISST, the Justus Liebig University Giessen, the TIB - Leibniz Information Center for Technology and Natural Sciences, the University of Cologne, the University of Leipzig, the IT Center of RWTH Aachen, FIZ Karlsruhe - Leibniz Institute for Information Infrastructures GmbH, Heidelberg University Hospital, Eberhard Karls University of Tübingen, Heidelberg Academy of Sciences, European Molecular Biology Laboratory EMBL, Philipps University of Marburg, Westphalian Wilhelms University of Münster, ZBW - Leibniz Information Centre for Economics, Atos.
The project thus includes areas of the following initiatives and NFDI consortia: NFDI4Ing, NFDI4Chem, NFDI4Health, NFDI4Culture, GHGA, NFDI4Biodiversity, KonsortSWD, Medizininformatikinitiative (MII), Gaia-X Association for Data and Cloud (AISBL) and International Data Spaces Association (IDSA).
